Santerias World Music
Sept. 26 @ 9:30pm | Location: TBA
Like the religion of Santeria their propulsive music is a mystical blend of old and new world influences - tribal rhythms expressing themselves in the gospels of popular song. Flamenco guitar runs along with electric bass while congas, cajon and timbales transport the rhythm to Afro-Latin locales. Sultry vocals breathe out Bossa Nova tales that teasingly take each song to a mysterious musical place occupied exclusively by Santerias.
Freddy Torrealba and Son Ache
Oct. 3 @ 9:30pm | Location TBA
The Charango Master Freddy Torrealba comes to show us the music and roots of this incredible instrument. And, Waterloo Region will have its own Buena Vista Social Club with Son Ache! Although they are collectively younger with a fresh urban vibe and energy, expect to hear melodies and rhythms firmly rooted in the traditions of the Cuban guajiros, of guitars, percussion and voice - close your eyes for a moment and you're magically transported back to the Golden Age of Cuba's Tropicana shows, to the streets of Havana, when life was music and music was life.
